3 More Ways to Help Your Baby Eat – Part 2

Updated: Sep 16

If you’ve tried the tips from Baby Feeding Dr in Part 1: removing pressure, avoiding grazing, and serving new foods alongside favourites, you’re already creating a calmer, more positive mealtime environment. In this follow-up, we’ll explore three more ways to encourage your baby to eat and enjoy food.

A toddler in a high chair gestures playfully with an adult nearby. The child eats avocado toast in a bright kitchen setting.
A father and his young child share a lighthearted moment during mealtime, as the child eagerly explores the taste of avocado, making each bite an adventure.

Here are 3 more ways to help your baby eat

1. Eat Together

Babies learn by watching you. When they see you eating and enjoying a variety of foods, they’re more likely to want to try them too. Sit together at the table, even if your meal times don’t perfectly align, and offer them some of what you’re eating (prepared in a safe, age-appropriate way). Making meals social and connected can help your baby see food as something fun and worth exploring.

2. Involve Them in Food Prep

Even little ones can get involved in the kitchen. Let your baby touch, smell, and explore ingredients before they’re cooked. They might help “wash” vegetables in a bowl of water, stir soft foods, or watch you chop and cook. Being part of the process makes food feel familiar and less intimidating, and often sparks curiosity to taste.

3. Keep Foods in Rotation

If your baby refuses a food, don’t give up, just keep offering it occasionally without making a fuss. It can take 10, 15, or even 20+ exposures before a baby decides to taste (and like) something new. Keep portions small, pair the food with something they already enjoy, and serve it in different ways. A carrot might be roasted one day, grated into pancakes another, and blended into soup the next.

Remember: Every child’s journey with food is different. The goal is to create a positive, low-pressure environment that allows your baby to explore and develop at their own pace.
